Bench Ranch has been owned and operated by the Heyneman family since 1959, and since they set foot on the property, they developed a holistic philosophy and a mission to become stewards of this land. They follow a Holistic Resource Management (HRM) plan and also focus on conservation in order to preserve the raw beauty of the landscape for generations to come.

Holistic Resource Management

Along with a few neighboring ranches in the Rosebud Valley, the Bench Ranch is operated according to the values and methods of HMR with the basic tenant that “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.” HRM’s goal is to preserve and enhance the natural resources of Bench Ranch. By using a minimum amount of chemicals, HRM provides a healthier ecosystem for the animals, the land, and the surrounding community.

Conservation

Bench Ranch is also operated under a conservation easement with the Montana Land Reliance. This means that Torgrimson Place is one of only six home sites that can be developed on this beautiful 5,000-acre property.

Over the years, the Heyneman family has developed interests and affiliations with a variety of organizations such as the Montana Land Reliance, Northern Plains Resource Council, Montana Committee for the Humanities, and the Yellowstone Art Museum. Sharing the Torgrimson Place allows us to share the beauty and integrity of this extraordinary valley with visitors to our fine state.
